Course Summary

The four-year study in Applied Chemistry will enable students to acquire basic principles and experimental skills in Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry (including Instrumental Analysis), Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering Principles etc.. In addition, students are also provided with courses of Modern Analysis and Fine Chemicals. With solid theoretical backgrounds, professional knowledge and practical skills, students upon graduation are expected to be competent of conducting chemical analysis, synthesis of materials and fine chemicals, research on comprehensive usage of industrial wastes, technological development, production engineering, production and operation management, chemistry teaching, and laboratory technology and management etc.

Major Description: This major currently has 26 faculty members, 7 of them are professors and 9 of them are associate professors, 18 of them have overseas background, 5 scholars enrolled in provincial talent project.The fundamental chemistry provincial experimental teaching demonstration center has professional teaching laboratory 1000 m2 and instrument equipment more than 20 millionyuan. Applied chemistry pay much attention to international exchanges and cooperation.The major has established cooperative relationsfriendly with the University of Reading in UK and other foreign higher schools,develop academic exchange and the cooperationstudy and jointly develop undergraduate and graduate students. The effect of training is significant. The students’ excellent thesiswon first prize and second prize of Jiangsu province.The outstanding students received the offer of master andPhD of Tsinghua universitydirectly and is widely recognized by the society.

Train Object: This major train senor professional technical student and they can adapt to the continuous development of science and technology. The students have solid basic chemistry theory, fundamental knowledge and strong lab skills. Besides this, the students have solid mathematics, foreign language foundation and strong ability of computer application. The students have a certain knowledge of meteorology, strong scientific quality and certain teaching, research, development and management ability.

Direction of job: They can do the work such as analysis testing, science and technology information, product development, process design, education, production, management, trade and the research and development instruments and equipment in new energy (such as lithium cell, solar cell), new material (such as 3D print material, graphene), petrochemical industry, daily chemical products, fine chemical industry, research institution and high school.
