Prof. Jiang Zhihong

Jiang Zhihong 
Vice President

Born in February 1963, a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, professor, doctorial supervisor, Vice President of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology; be responsible for affairs concerning postgraduate education, infrastructure construction and assist the management of academic work. She takes charge of School of Postgraduates, Office of Discipline Construction, Office of Infrastructure Construction. Contact School: School of Mathematics and Statistics.


Educational Background:

In July 1984, graduated from the Department of Meteorology, Nanjing University with a Bachelor’s Degree 
In July 1987,graduated from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Nanjing University with a Master’s Degree
In June 2000,graduated from the Department of Atmospheric Science, Nanjing Institute of Meteorology with a Doctor’s Degree


Work Experience:

From July 1987 to November 2002, served as teacher (successively as instructor, associate professor and professor) of Nanjing Institute of Meteorology;
From June 2001 to June 2002, visited the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, National Taiwan University for cooperation-based research; 
From November 2002 to July 2006, served as Deputy Dean of the Department of Recourse, Environment and Urban-rural Planning, NUIST (responsible for presiding);   From August 2006 to November 2006, acted as Deputy Dean of School of Atmosphere Science, NUIST; 
From November 2006 to April 2010, served as Chief of the Key Laboratory of Meteorological Disaster and Deputy Dean of the School of Atmosphere Science, NUIST;
From January 2010 to April 2010, served as assistant to director of the Climate Center, China Meteorological Administration (temporary post);
From May 2010 till now, has been serving as Vice President of NUIST


Social Appointments:

Member of the Climate Commission and the Ecological Meteorological Commission, Chinese Meteorological Society and chairwoman of the Statistical Meteorological Commission, Jiangsu Provincial Meteorological Society
Member of the 9th and 10th political consultative conference of Jiangsu Province and Vice Chairwoman of the Committee of Population, Resource and Environment of the Provincial Political Consultative Conference
Member of the 9th and 10th CPC committee of Jiangsu province, China Democratic League.


Honorary Titles:

In 1997, selected as a trainee of Jiangsu Provincial 333 Program 
In 1998, selected as an outstanding young backbone teacher of Regular Institutions of Higher Learning in Jiangsu Province
In 2000, selected as a trainee candidate of new-century academic leaders of Regular Institutions of Higher Learning in Jiangsu Province


Research Fields:

She has been engaged in instruction of and research on climatology and mainly instructed such subjects as Climate Statistics and Climate Change. She has been mainly engaged in the research on short-term climate diagnosing and forecasting, regional climate change and simulation as well as effect assessment thereof, etc., has conducted short-term cooperation-based researches in Dynamical Meteorology Laboratory in France, NASA and NOAA in the U.S., and National Taiwan University, and took charge of and fulfilled a number of national natural science foundation programs, National 973 Programs, National Science & Technology Support Plan, and Special Scientific Research Programs of National Public Welfare Industry, etc.. Currently, she takes charge of the preliminary prediction and research on future extreme change in rain fall in China based on downscaling techniques as one of national natural science foundation programs, the research on interaction between drive-carrying surface system and east Asian monsoon system in coastal cities as one of the National 973 program subjects and the research on diagnosing and forecasting techniques of multi-scale characteristics of east Asian climate as one of special scientific research programs of national public welfare industry(meteorology),etc.. She has published over 100 papers in academically important journals at home and abroad, and co-published 3 monographs one of which is written in English.
She has successively won one second prize for her achievements in scientific research awarded by the Ministry of Education, two third prizes for her progress in science and technology granted by China Meteorological Administration, and one second prize for her progress in science and technology of Jiangsu Province.
