Undergraduate

The School of Mathematics and Statistics has three undergraduate programs, which include Information and Computing Science, Statistics and Applied Statistics, and Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The range of degrees offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics are designed to give you a thorough grounding in the ideas and techniques of all branched  modern mathematics and statistics.
The length of each program is four years. After completing all the credits of the undergraduate, the students will receive an undergraduate certificate and a Bachelor of Science degree conferred by the university. The programs focus on professional cross and strengthen practical ability. The students will be taught by experienced researchers and will have the opportunity to get access to their researches.

Undergraduate Specialities

Information and Computing Science (This major is comprehensive reform experimental major of Minister of Education, key specialty of Jiangsu Province, brand and characteristic specialty of Jiangsu Province, including “Information and big data” and “Large-scale scientific calculation” )

Based on the advantage of information processing, engineer calculation and numerical simulation, this major focuses on cultivating international characteristic talents with basic theory of information and computing science, with initial scientific research training, and with the ability of making use of professional acknowledge and calculation expertise to handle with the practical problem in information processing and scientific calculation.

Focusing on the urgent need for newly arisen industries from the market, such as  

high performance calculation, cloud computing, big data, pattern recognition, machine learning and artificial intelligence, this major makes full use of the collaborated educational resources between the university and foreign well-known university, domestic high-tech companies, to cultivate international, academic, and innovative talents.

    The major sets professional and comprehensive modules, including mathematical foundational modules (mathematical analysis, etc), informational science foundational modules (coding theory, etc) , computer science foundational modules (introduction to database systems), artificial intelligence and machine learning modules (calculation intelligence and pattern recognition, etc), large-scale scientific calculation and engineer calculation module (numerical methods for a large sparse matrix, etc), professional practice modules, research training and production and study cooperation with Nanjing QingTian KeJi Company Limited, Jiangsu GongXin Software Technology Development Company Limited,  Jiangsu GaoWeiDa Information Technology Company Limited, etc.

 

Applied Statistics (This major is key specialty of Jiangsu Province, including “Economic statistics” and “Modern statistics” )

This major focuses on cultivating talents with professional knowledge of statistics, economics, financial mathematics and related disciplines, with the ability of making use of statistical software to process data analysis and processing, and with the ability of solving statistical problems in social, economics, management, medicine, meteorology and other field.

The economic statistics major focuses on cultivating talents with solid economic foundation, with the ability to master modern statistical method, with high English level and with the computer analysis and processing capability. The modern statistics major focuses on cultivating talents with solid modern statistic foundation, with the ability to master modern statistical method, and with extensive statistics foundation knowledge.

The major sets professional and comprehensive modules, including statistical quality management, modern statistics method, application of statistics analysis software, the statistics method in atmosphere science, securities investment analysis, data mining, mathematical modelling, statistical algorithm and simulation, econometrics, mathematic finance, actuarial science, statistical quality management practice (enterprise practice base), science, statistical application practice (practice base of Nanjing Bureau of Statistics), modern statistical software practice, mathematical modelling experiment, social investigation practice.

 

Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (This major is key specialty of Jiangsu Province, including “Mathematics and applied mathematics” and “Mathematics and applied meteorology” )

This major focuses on cultivating talents with basic mathematical theory, acknowledge and method, with the ability of making use of mathematical acknowledge and calculation expertise to solve some practical mathematical problem, with the ability to do research and teaching work in the field of education, economics, finances and meteorology, and with the ability to do production design, development and management in the field of IT, communication industry, manufacturing, finances and securities industry.

The mathematics and applied mathematics major highlights the students’ mathematical ability, emphasizes on mathematical foundation and its application, cultivates excellent masters for first class universities domestic and abroad, and cultivates excellent production designers for enterprises such as Huawei, Pingan, etc.

Based on high level discipline meteorology of the university, the mathematics and applied meteorology major highlights the meteorology feature of professional modules, cultivates engineers in the field of meteorology and information, emphasizes on the cooperation and communication with foreign famous universities, and cultivates international talents.

 

The major sets professional and comprehensive modules, including mathematical modules (the same setup as in 985 universities), computer science modules (basic modules for computer major), meteorology modules (foundation of atmosphere science), and practice modules (enterprise practices, mathematical modelling, statistics software, etc.)
