On the morning of November 20, Ms. Namutebi Anita Caroline Kigonya, Finance Chairman of the Board of UNMA, and Dr. Bob Alex Ogwang, Chief Meteorologist / President of the National Weather Training School of Uganda, came to visit our university accompanied by Mr. Chen Yongqing, Director of Bilateral Affairs Division of Department of International Cooperation, China Meteorological Administration. Vice President Min Jinzhong met the delegation. Representatives of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, College of International Students and the WMO Regional Training Center attended the meeting.
Vice President Min Jinzhong extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation, and introduced the atmospheric discipline and related specialties and the situation of teachers and students, emphasizing on the efforts made by NUIST for cultivating domestic talents and for training global meteorological professionals during its 56 years’ development. Vice President Min pointed out that not only NUIST recruits a large number of students from abroad every year, but also WMO Regional Training Center organizes several meteorological training courses, encouraging Ugandan students to actively make use of the resources and opportunities to study in our university.
Ms. Namutebi Anita Caroline Kigonya extended her gratefulness to our university for cultivating Dr. Bob Alex Ogwang as a professional meteorologist, which contributed to the development of meteorological specialty in Uganda. She said that UNMA is committed to the development and upgrading of national meteorological specialty level, but the meteorologists and equipment are in a relatively scarce status because of historical reasons, hoping to get help and support from NUIST.
Dr. Bob Ogwang is a 2015 graduate of our university. As an alumnus, he thanked our university for the instruction and caring during his Ph.D. studying period. As the president of the National Weather Training School of Uganda, he hopes to get help from the University in training Ugandan meteorologists.
After the meeting, members of UNMA delegation communicated with teachers and students from College of International Students.
