On the afternoon of November 7th, the closing ceremony of Training Course on Meteorology for Uganda was held in NUIST. Professor Min Jinzhong, Vice president of NUIST, and Zhao Yuhong, Deputy director of Foreign Economic Trade Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, attended and delivered a speech. Professor Wang Suchun, Executive Deputy Director of WMO Regional Training Center, presided over the ceremony.
Vice president Min made Congratulations on the successful completion of the seminar, thanked all participants’ cooperation and support during the whole period and all experts who gave lectures as well as working staff of the RTC. He concluded teaching and practice work of the seminar. He quoted that this seminar has covered a wide range of theoretical themes including Satellite meteorology, Radar meteorology, Statistical methods for short-term climate prediction, Disaster prediction, early warning and mitigation measures and Extreme Impact of Atmospheric Circulation on the Climate. And finally he hoped that those lectures and field study can provide some experience to the meteorology service work in Uganda.
Deputy Director Zhao on behalf of the Commerce of Jiangsu Province noted that foreign aid training is one of the various kinds of assistance provided by the Chinese government to other developing countries. WMO RTC, as China's foreign aid training institutions, has made positive contribution to the improvement of operational capacity of participants and the learning of new knowledge as well as new technology. The Chinese government hopes to help participants better understand China and become friendly ambassadors between two nations and promote the communication and cooperation between China and other countries through this seminar. And this seminar can be a good chance to carry on the friendship and communication between both countries.
The representative of all participants, Mr. Moses Ojara delivered a speech on the ceremony. He thought the training provided them with very useful knowledge and experiences which shall be able to apply in their dayly work to improve the accuracy and efficiency of Ugandan Meteorological Services. He also addressed that the visit to the Observatory was so educative that it is like an eye opener to all the participants as regards to provision of meteorological services to their country. Eventually, due to the long-term support and help of Chinese government, many of the participants here today have expressed their wish to come here for their Masters and PHD studies if given the opportunity.
According to the requirements of the Ministry of Commerce, 20 participants from Training Course on Meteorology for Uganda, guided by Deputy Director of the Center, Prof Lei Zhaochong, visited Wenzhou Meteorological Bureau. During which time the teaching practice base was established under the cooperation of WMO Regional Training Center and Wenzhou Meteorological Bureau. That base will give full play to the advantages of business sector in the practice of teaching process and further enhance the participants’ ability of practical application.
