Brief Introduction

School of Remote Sensing and Geomatics Engineering (RSGE) originated from the Department of Climatology established by Nanjing Meteorological Institute in 1960. Over years of construction and development, the School of Remote Sensing was established in 2006 and renamed with the School of Geography and Remote Sensing in 2014. From November 2017, the School of Remote Sensing and Geomatics Engineering operates independently with 2 bachelor’s majors of Remote Sensing Science& Geomatics Engineering, 4 master’s degrees of Surveying &Mapping Science and Technology, 3S Integration &Meteorological Application, Environmental Remote Sensing, Navigation &Spatial Information, 3 Ph.D degrees of 3S Integration &Meteorological Application, Environmental Remote Sensing, Navigation &Spatial Information .

The RSGE has 51 faculty members, including 8 professors, 15Associate Professors, 13 Assistant Professors and 5 post-doctoral fellows. The doctoral rate of full-time teachers is 97.3%. There are more than 10 distinguished professors, including foreign academicians, Jiangsu DitiguishedProfessor, 100-person program of Chinese Academy of Sciences, young and middle-aged academic leaders in "Blue Project" of Jiangsu Province, 333 high-level personnel training projects of Jiangsu Province, Shuangchuang Team of Jiangsu Province and other provincial-level personnel projects, and 5 overseas part-time professors.


The RSGE establishes a distinct, scientific and standardized training system for undergraduate and postgraduate.Over the past 5 years, the enrollment rate of undergraduate graduates has remained around 40%, the high-quality employment rate is over 98%, and the graduate employment rate is 100%. Undergraduate students have received more than 100 awards at the provincial level, including the "Internet+" College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship contest two prize in 2018, the silver medal in the National Challenge Cup, the first prize in the National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition in the Beidou Cup, the provincial excellent graduation design team and the provincial excellent graduation thesis, provincial outstanding class collective and other awards.


The RSGE strengthens the platformconstruction of discipline, scientific research and teaching constantly, e.g., Jiangsu Engineering Center of Collaborative Precise Navigation/Positioning and Smart Applications, Center of Remote Sensing Application Experimental Teaching and Center of Digital Geomatics Engineering Practical Education, the central financial support for the construction projects of local colleges and universities-"China-US Cooperation Remote Sensing Center" and "Remote Sensing Information Engineering Experimental Platform". Meanwhile, we participated in the construction of "Environmental Science and Engineering" and "Geography" dominant disciplines. In recent years, more than 30 million yuan has been invested in laboratory construction, and a large number of advanced teaching and research equipment have been purchased to support the scientific research and personnel training.

The school attaches great importance to the study of teaching reform and actively carries out the construction of various teaching quality projects. Over the past five years, we have hosted all kinds of projects including 17 teaching reform and textbook construction projects, 1 provincial education reformand major construction project, 1 key project at school level. The achievements including 3 textbooks published, 17 teaching reform papers published, 15 projects of guiding students to practice and innovate training programs at or above the provincial level, 3 excellent provincial undergraduate graduation papers and More than 70 awards in competitions above the provincial level. In respect ofeducation of graduate students, we designate high-level teachers to undertake the teaching tasks of graduate students with a high sense of responsibility and guide them in all directions. As a result, the sampled Graduate Dissertations has excellentquality.


Focusing on the development of disciplines and specialties, the research fields with distinct characteristics have gradually formed, including photogrammetry and remote sensing, satellite navigation and positioning, atmospheric environment remote sensing, 3S integration and meteorological application, resources and environment remote sensing, water environment remote sensing, ecological environment remote sensing, surveying and mapping geographic information technology, etc. by in-depth analysis of the disciplinary background of team and continuously refined and optimized the scientific research side.In the past five years, the school has undertaken 37 vertical scientific research projects, including 18 national-level projects and more than 22.0 million yuan of research funds on account. It has published more than 200 academic papers, including more than 100 papers in SCI (SCIE) and EI, and won some noted prizes like one second-class award of the State Oceanic Administration-Marine Science and Technology Award and two second-class Awards of Jiangsu Science and Technology Progress Award. The Ministry of Education's Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Science and Technology) - the Second Prize for Natural Science, the Second Prize for Natural Science in Hubei Province, the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Surveying and Mapping, the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Satellite Navigation and Positioning, the Xia Jianbai Innovation Prize for Surveying and Mapping, the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Shanghai, Liu Guangding Geophysical Youth Science and Technology Award, the Third Prize for Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award, the Third Prize for Nanjing Science and Technology Progress Award, the Third Prize for Science and Technology Research Achievement Award (Science and Technology Progress Award) in Jiangsu University, the second prize for Satellite Navigation and Positioning Excellent Engineering and Product Award of 2017 China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association, the second prize of the 2018 Science and Technology Progress Prize of Surveying and Mapping, etc.


The school actively expands cooperation and exchanges at home and abroad. We have conducted extensive cooperation and exchanges between universities and scientific research institutes in major countries and regions like USA, UK, Australia, Netherlands and Canada etc. We also invited experts to give lectures, and selected full-time teachers to exchange with relevant institutions. By the end of 2017, 22 teachers had been abroad for more than half a year, which accounts for 59.5% of full-time teachers. For a long time, a good internal cooperation and exchange mechanism has been established for short-term study or degree studyof excellent undergraduates and postgraduates with well-known institutions like Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan University, Nanjing University, Beijing Normal University and Nanjing Normal University. We always adhere to the motto of "seeking truth, innovation, good morality and erudite learning", in order to build the school into a well-known and influential engineering college in the world, we need strengthen discipline and major constructionwithcohesion and enterprising by personnel training as the core and scientific research as the guidance.
