Overview

School of Automation at NUIST was initially established in 1993 as Department of Information and Communication Engineering. After adjustment, School of Automation was officially founded in 2006. .It was authorized to confer Master degree in 1998. Since 2011, the school has gained the first and second phase of advantageous project of sensor networks and modern meteorological equipment etc. in Jiangsu Province. In 2016, Control Science and Engineering was awarded as the nurturing centers of Jiangsu Province in “13th Five Year Plan” Key Disciplines.

School of Automation has 93faculty members including 20professors and29associate professors. It has a national team of teachers and 3provincial science and technology innovation teams. In the past five years, it has undertaken 46 projects of National Science Foundation of China, and R&D research funding is over RMB 60 million, it has published more than 700papers. Over the last three years, the School won many awards in the internationally renowned image comprehension algorithm competition, winning first of many tasks in the Image Net Contest for three consecutive years.

Automation

This major is designed to cultivate high-level engineering and technology talents engaged in system analysis, design research, development, integration and operation in the fields of industrial process control, motion control, inspection and automation instrumentation, and manufacturing automation,who master all kinds of modern production monitoring, control, management technologies and various modern information collection, processing and application technologies.

Measurement and Control Technology and Instrument

This major is aimed at training high-level engineering and technology talents mastering basic theoretical knowledge, professional technical knowledge and application skills in natural sciences, engineering foundations, measurement control and instrumentswith abilities of integrated design and development, system integration, and application of electromechanical measurement and control systems and electronic instruments.

Electrical Engineering and Automation

This major is to cultivate high-level engineering talents engaged in equipment manufacturing, technology development, scientific research and economic management in electrical engineering related fields of energy utilization, motor drive and control electrical engineering, who master basic knowledge of electrical engineering with strong adaptive ability.

Main Courses: Circuit, Principles and Application of Microcontroller, Foundation of Electronic Technology, Power System Analysis, Electrical Motor, Electric Traction, Principles of Automatic Control, Electronic Detection Technique and Power Plant Electric, etc.


Data Science and Big Data Technology

Themajor is to train applied talents engaged in scientific research, development and analysis of big data in educational research, enterprises, and administrative departments, whomaster basic theoretical knowledge, methods and major tools of big data analysis.

Control Science and Engineering

This majorfocuses on the control system in the engineering field with mathematical methods and computer technology as main tools toresearch theories, techniques, and methods of modeling, analysis, synthesis, design, and implementation of various control strategies and systems. It contains four disciplines: control theory and control engineering, detection technology and automatic devices, systems engineering, pattern recognition and intelligent systems.


Control Engineering

This majorfocuses on the control system in the engineering field with control theory, detection technology, and computer technology as main tools to research and implement the theory, techniques, methods, and applications of various control devices, control strategies, and control systems,accomplishing design, installation, debugging and operation of automation system engineering.

Research

Jiangsu province key laboratory of Big Data Analysis Technology

The Jiangsu province key laboratory of Big Data Analysis Technology (B-DAT) at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) was established in June 2014.

The B-DAT lab currently has 30 faculty members. The faculty members have been granted several nation or ministry level major research funding support and/or talent titles, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, New Century Excellent Talents in University, etc.


The current core research directions and topics of the B-DAT lab include:

As a province key laboratory, the B-DAT lab receives regular funding from the education department of JiangSu province government. It also attracts funds through R&D projects from many other national and industrial sources such as the National Natural Science Foundation, JiangSu Province Natural Science Foundation, and industry joint programs. Currently, the B-DAT lab undertakes more than 30 R&D projects, including one supported by National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and two by the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars.

The B-DAT members publish widely in leading national and international journals and conferences such as IEEE Transactions on PAMI, Journal of Machine Learning Research, IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, NIPS, ICML, ICCV, CVPR, etc. They are also active in program committees and editorial boards of these journals and conferences. The teams from B-DAT have won the championships of several international scientific challenges in artificial intelligence including ImageNet and Faces-In-The-Wild-Challenge.


Jiangsu Engineering Research Center on Meteorological Energy Using and Control

The Jiangsu Engineering Research Center on Meteorological Energy Using and Control (C-MEIC) at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) was established in 2014. The center has five research laboratories, including the Wind power control lab, Remote sensing and early warning Lab, Novel motor drive Lab, New energy conversion and control lab, Wireless Power Transmission lab.

The C-MEIC currently has 28 faculty members. The center has formed a high-level talent team covering electrical engineering, automation, computer, atmospheric science and etc.. The faculty members have been granted several nation or ministry level major research funding support and/or talent titles, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, New Century Excellent Talents in University, Distinguished professor of Jiangsu, High-level talents of the Six talent peaks project in Jiangsu Province, Innovation Team of Qinglan Project, 333 High-level Talents of Jiangsu, etc.

The intelligent control laboratory

The intelligent control laboratory currently has 18 faculty members. Most laboratory membersare young and interested in scientific research. They have been granted several nation or Jiangsu province research funding support, including the National natural science foundation of China, the natural science foundation for distinguished young scholarsof Jiangsu province, the doctoral foundation of ministry of education of China, the natural science foundation of Jiangsu province, and six talent peaks project in Jiangsu province. etc.

Intelligent detection and Instrument Laboratory

The Intelligent detection and Instrument Laboratory founded in 2012.The laboratory consistsof 5 professors and 9 associate professor.
