I. General Provisions

1. The university established the Scholarship of Excellent International Students for the purpose of encouraging international students to study industriously, enhancing their comprehensive developments and creating a good learning atmosphere.

2. Self-supporting postgraduates and undergraduates who have been studying at NUIST for one academic year and above can apply for the scholarship.

3. The scholarship is assessed by adhering to the principles of openness, fairness and impartiality.



II. Scholarship Categories

Scholarship of Excellent International Students has three classes: the first-class scholarship, the second-class scholarship and the third-class scholarship. The amounts and the number of scholarship students are as follows:

1. First-class Scholarship: no more than 5% of self-supporting degree students are rewarded 3000 CNY per person per academic year.

2. Second-class Scholarship: no more than 10% of self-supporting degree students are rewarded 2000 CNY per person per academic year.

3. Third-class Scholarship: no more than 20% of self-supporting degree students are rewarded 1000 CNY per person per academic year.



III. Application Criteria

1. Strictly observe Chinese laws and regulations, rules and regulations of NUIST and behave well in the daily life.

2. Actively participate in sports, cultural and social activities, love the class and the university and care for others.

3. Have high motivation in study and ranks top among the fellow students of the same major with no failure in any compulsory courses in the last academic year.

4. The detailed criteria for students of different categories are as follows:

(1) PhD Students

a. Students whose average score of the academic year achieves 80 can apply for the scholarship of different levels according to their academic results and scientific research performance;

b. Students are hard-working and make innovations in the research work that are recognized by the supervisor;

c. Students have published high-quality academic papers in the domestic or foreign journals. Students whose papers are published in the journals of high impact factor or included by SCI, EI or ISTP may enjoy the priority when applying for the scholarship (the copy of the published paper and the related original certificate should be submitted).

(2) Master Students

a. Students whose average score of the academic year achieves 80 can apply for the scholarship of different levels according to their academic results and scientific research performance;

b. Students are hard-working and make innovations in the research work that are recognized by the supervisor;

c. Students have published academic papers in the domestic or foreign journals or presented papers in academic meetings. Students whose papers are published in the journals of high impact factor or included by SCI, EI or ISTP may enjoy the priority when applying for the scholarship (the copy of the published paper and the related original certificate should be submitted).

(3) Undergraduates

a. In Chinese medium, students whose average score of the academic year achieves 70, 75 and 80 can apply for the third-class scholarship, the second-class scholarship and the first-class scholarship respectively.

b. In English medium, students whose average score of the academic year achieves 75, 80 and 85 can apply for the third-class scholarship, the second-class scholarship and the first-class scholarship respectively.



IV. Application and Assessing

1. The scholarship assessment starts every September or October according to students’ performance in the last academic year.

2. Applicants can ask for The Application Form of NUIST Excellent International Students’ Scholarship from College of International Students or download it from the college’s website. Applicants shall fill in the form and submit the form and other application documents to College of International Students.

3. The transcript, one of the application documents, should be the record of the courses’ grades provided by the Teaching Affairs Office. The non-centesimal grades should be changed into centesimal grades and the marking system of five levels, namely, excellent, good, medium, pass and fail should be converted into 95, 85, 75, 65 and 50 respectively.

4. College of International Students shall evaluate the application forms and documents and name the candidates of the scholarship.

5. The Scholarship Committee shall publicize the scholarship candidates and report to the vice president in charge of international students’ affairs for approval.

6. The name list of the scholarship winners will be posted on the notice board by College of International Students and the winners will be publicly commended by the college in the international students’ meeting.

7. The university awards each winner the scholarship and the certificate.



V. The Scholarship Committee

1. The Scholarship Committee consists of the vice president in charge of international students’ affairs, experts, supervisors and the officers of College of International Students.

2. The duties of the committee include:

(1) Assessing and deciding on the winners of the scholarship;

(2) Handling disputes in the process of assessing, accepting complaints and re-assessing the scholarship;

(3) Interpretation and amendment of the measures of assessing the scholarship.

3. The routine of the committee is carried out by College of International Students.
