Brief Introduction

The school of Computer and Software was founded in 2006. The school consists of five undergraduate programs: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, and Information Security. In addition, approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (MOE), the school is running a Chinese-foreign educational cooperation undergraduate program with the Waterford Institute of Technology. The school has the authority to award Doctoral degrees in the subject of Information Security, and Master’s degrees in the subject of Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, and Electronic Information Engineering, respectively.

The discipline of Computer Science and Technology (CST) was founded in 1987, authorized to grant MSc in Computer Applications (2005), Computer Science and Technology (2011, evaluated as Excellent in 2015), Software Engineering (2011), and PhD in Meteorological Information Technology and Security (2008), respectively. The CST discipline has been well witnessed under rapid advancement with high quality for the past decade, partly detailed as: the key discipline of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA)(2008), National Characteristic Major of China (2010), Predominant Program of Jiangsu Higher Institutions (2011, 2014, 2018), one of the four-star Chinese high quality research disciplines according to the 2016 Chinese University Discipline Rankings given by the Website of Chinese Alumni Association, global top 1% discipline of Clarivate’s Essential Science Indicator (ESI) in 2017, MOE Engineering Research Center of Digital Forensics (the only one nationally approved on the base of CST), Professional Accreditation of Engineering Education, National First-Class Undergraduate Major, Top 37 (Domestic) and Top 91 (Worldwide) Best Global Universities Rankings at U.S. News and World Report.

More than 70 national and provincial funds and 200 other projects with CST have been secured with overall funding of 80 million Yuan over the past five years. More than 100 papers have been published in top journals, e.g. IEEE TPAMI, TPDS, TGRS, TIFS, TIP, etc., and top conferences, e.g. IJCAI, ICCV, AAAI, etc.

Academic Staff and Research Platforms

At present the school has over 110 full-time teachers, including 2 foreign teachers; 65% of them have senior titles, where 35 are Professors (16 of them are PhD supervisors particularly), 37 are Associate Professors (23 Master supervisors). In addition, there are 5 Nationally Acclaimed Talents, i.e. Prof. Qingshan LiuProf. Xiaotong Yuan, Prof. Jian Shen, Prof. Zhangjie Fu, and Prof. Guangcan Liu, over 20 Provincially Acclaimed Talents, such as Prof. Zhangjie Fu, the Excellent Young Scientist of Jiangsu, an overseas academician, Prof. Qingming Jonathan Wu, who is the fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and over 40 world-renowned scholars and scientists, e.g. Prof. Yunqing Shi, have been employed as overseas professors (non-full-time position). Besides, the school has four provincial-level research and innovation teams: “Huang Danian” Teachers Team of National Universities and Colleges (Team of Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Computing), Innovation Talent Team (Team of Big Data-based Intelligent Monitoring Systems Addressing Climate Change in Jiangsu Province) with Jiangsu “Six Talent Peaks”, Jiangsu Innovation/Entrepreneurship Team Program (Team of Big Data Analytics Technology), and CMA Teaching Team (Team of Internet of Things).

The school has established three provincial research platforms: the Engineering Research Center of Digital Forensics, Ministry of Education, the Internet Application Innovation and Open Platform Demonstration Base approved by the Ministry of Education, and the Network Monitoring Engineering Center approved by Jiangsu Province; two research platforms approved by both central and local governments: Digital Forensics and Meteorological Data Mining; two laboratories approved by both central and local governments: Information Security Laboratory, and High Performance Grid Computing and Parallel Processing Laboratory; and two provincial practice education center: Jiangsu Software Engineering and Information Service Practice Education Center, and Jiangsu Internet of Things Engineering Practice Education Center.

1. Theory and Method of Intelligent Data Analysis

Members: Qingshan Liu, Guangcan Liu, Tinghuai Ma, Yuhui Zheng, Bin Gu, Kaihua Zhang, Jinglin Zhang

The team is mainly composed of a group of young and middle-aged teachers who are full of vitality and hard-working spirit, which owns outstanding academic achievements, good working foundation and great potential. The current research leader of the team is Prof. Qingshan Liu. The team consists of 20 members, the average age is under 40, and the doctoral ratio is 100%. It is a young and promising team. Based on artificial intelligence and big data, to meet the needs of meteorological industry, the team members mainly aim to strengthen theoretical research such as machine learning and image understanding, focus on breaking through key technologies on meteorological big data analysis and satellite cloud image intelligent interpretation. The team members won the Second Prize of 2016 Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, and have headed more than 30 high level national scientific research projects over the past five years, such as China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists, New Century Excellent Talents in University, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

2. Computer Network System Structure

 

Members: Jian Shen, Qi Liu, Baowei Wang, Suting Chen, Xiaolong Xu, Li Ma, Jun Wang

This team is dynamic and enterprising. Based on the next generation Internet, to meet the needs of civil-military integration and meteorological industry, the team members mainly aim to explore the new architecture of intelligent network system, and focus on the research and development of air space integrated intelligent network and meteorological internet of things. The team members won the First Prize of the 2017 Meteorological Science and Technology Progress Award of Chinese Meteorological Society, and the Second Prize of the 2018 Science and Technology Award of Jiangsu Province. Besides, they have headed 17 high level national scientific research projects over the past five years, such as the National Key Research and Development Program of China, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

3. Content Security

Members: Xingming Sun, Zhangjie Fu, Beijing Chen, Zhihua Xia, Chunyong Yin, Zhili Zhou

This team consists of 15 members, including 5 PhD supervisors. Based on the information hiding and evidence collection, to solve the crucial problems of multimedia content protection in the case of non-encryption, the team members mainly focus on the theory and method of carrier free information hiding, color image digital forensics, encrypted meteorological information processing. The team members won the First Prize of the 2019 Science and Technology Award of Jiangsu Province. In addition, they actively participate in the research projects supported by national and provincial scientific fund, which include more than 20 national scientific research projects over the past five years, for example, the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Joint Funds of the National Natural Science Foundation Program of China.

4. Software Engineering Theory

The software engineering theory investigates the software engineering formalization methods, software modeling analysis and verification, software behavior. Software formalization method refers to the software development method based on strict mathematics and allows software developers to apply rigorous mathematical notation to describe, develop, and validate computer-based systems. The software analysis modeling embodies the idea of software design and builds a bridge between system requirements and system implementation. Software behavior science discusses software behavior systematically and in detail.

5. Software Engineering and Security

Software engineering and security mainly studies the theory, methods, techniques and applications of software services and security information systems. The software service is a software service mode that integrates management software and implementation service. It includes providing mature software products, high-quality implementation training service, enterprise management consulting service, and projects to continuously improve the service in the later stage. And the security information system is a set of data collection, processing, storage and transmission system established for quantitative security analysis. It is a kind of tool to achieve the purpose of system security.

6. Application and Development of Meteorological Software

Members: Huantong Geng, Zhaoqing Pan, Dingcheng Wang, Bin Li, Zhanyang Xu, Wei Zhuang, Haibin Wang

Application and development of meteorological software mainly investigate the development of applied and service-oriented meteorological software, meteorological business process management, etc. With the utilization of big data technology and data mining technology, it provides technical support and business process optimization for agrometeorology, hydrometeorology, transportation meteorology, and smart city, etc.

Domestic & International Influences

Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology is famous for her Atmospheric Science with A+ ranking. The school of Computer and Software aims to serve meteorology, and has cultivated a large number of IT talents with Meteorological knowledge for the countries all over the world. Supported by the Dominant Academic Program Development of Jiangsu and other projects, the school has achieved high-impact original and creative outcomes in multiple fields, therefore increasing and expanding its academic influence and disciplinary rankings. The research directions, e.g. Coverless Information Hiding and Remote sensing image interpretation have reached the international leading position. The number of undertaken national major scientific projects by the discipline of Computer Science and Technology occupies the top rank in China. A series of national/international conferences, e.g. ICAIS, VALSE, ACM TURC-AIS, etc. has been created and constructed leading worldwide academic exchange of relevant fields. China Council of ACM SIGWEB has been founded to enhance the influence of the discipline. With the construction of “China-US Computer Science Research Centre”, “Qingming Wu Overseas Academician Workstation”, and the execution of international science and technology cooperation projects with Japan, Korea and UK, the internationalization of the school is sustainably keeping increasing.
